Hemingway’s Crook Factory was an amalgamation of artists and athletes, politicians and polo players, mercenaries, scoundrels and the occasional author. Its formation was the perfect storm of brains, bravado and the overreach of the covert arm of the American Military. Funded secretly by the OSS, Hemingway and his posse of expat miscreants used the backdrop of post-WWII Cuba to lead a campaign of sabotage and counterintelligence to subvert, what they believed to be, the growing tide of fascism.
Savannah’s Crook Factory is not and should not be compared to the men and women that risked life and limb engaging in guerilla warfare against the Soviet navy, fueled by unwavering principles and rum. What we do have in common with those old salts is the realization that the correct people, in the right place, with a common goal, can do incredible things if they truly believe in their purpose.
Our purpose is to build a picture of a healthy and prosperous hospitality community from a disjointed jigsaw puzzle of odd shapes and rough edges. We avidly self-proclaim to be broken humans who wandered into Savannah, which is now the backdrop to use our individual abilities and talents to help ourselves and others take the broken pieces of the past and make something great for the future of the town that saved us.
We also believe that Savannah should have the best to offer our guests and yourself, the guest. Right now Crook Factory is an ice company. We purify water to remove sediments, silt, sand, rust and other suspended particles in water down to five microns. Our freezing process forces all the remaining minerals and inert gases to the surface to leave behind the cleanest and clearest ice for clients. We also offer consultation as well as private bar services, from bartenders that truly believe in emphasizing the hospitality that the hostess city embodies, while advanced enough to execute at an unmatched level of skill and professionalism.
